Need help for a school list!! Applying this fall

Hello,
I am a morrocan girl, i need to apply this fall but i have no idea of what school i can get in!
To give a brief summary of my profile, i have strong academics, quite good ec, i think i can write good essays, but my sat I score will probably be very low, and i will also apply for FA, probably a full ride and i want to major in engineering or business.

I know i should have reach/match & safety schools but i don't how and where to start! Can you please help me ?? Any suggestions are welcomed :D (If you need further details about my profil, it is more detailed here

First of all, what do you want to study, and what are you strong at?

Look for colleges that are particularly strong in what you study, and see the atmosphere, size, and location of the school. Also, see if they give any FA to int students because some schools explicitly states that they don’t give any FA or merit scholarship to int student(like Wake Forest University). I know Upenn does, but it will be difficult And…for FA, there are some schools like Uchicago or Occidental College that requires International Student Financial Aid Application(ISFAA). It asks many many financial information so try to complete it in advance.

Also, why don’t you retake SAT to make sure you look strong in application? Its never bad to get a better score in SAT, or ACT. It’s the best to have SAT 2200+ or ACT 34+ to show you are a competitive student.
Particularly, if you score at least 63,640 in reading, you won’t have to take Toefl(uh I hate it). Some schools will have higher criteria, like Dartmouth, which requires at least 700+(!!). Correct me if i am wrong.

Or if you have attended USA school for 4 years with English, some schools will waive your Toefl requirement. Ask school individually…that’s what I did.

Youe need to look for colleges on your own, but for safety I recommend you University of Alabama.

Yes, it’s in South, but half of the students are from out state, and the town is more liberal than average Alabama. Also it is one of academically strong state university that offers full tuition scholarship to OOS/International
with SAT Math+CR 1400 in one sitting and GPA 3.5+. OOS tuition is 24500/year but if you get presidential scholarship, you will get abour 99000$/year! That saves you lots of money. Ask mom2collegekids for more info.

Thanks a looot!! I am sure it will help me

Do you think that a two-month preparation for the SAT can help me increase my score by how many points ? I plan to take it this October to apply ED to some school!

Yes, but ED on October?

SAT on 2014 Fall is scheduled on October, and it will take at least 19 days to get the result.

Also, do you know where you want to go? Some places won’t give FA to Int during ED.

@paul2752‌ I think most deadlines for ED are the beginning of November, i tought that it was fine to take it in October! Should i consider taking it before ?

I don’t really know, i am quite interested in UPenn but i am afraid i won’t be accepted since it’s a highly competitive and a need-aware school(for international stud) so i am trying to consider other options!

Another question, if i apply ED, can i apply somewhere else ?

oh I read your post wrong, sorry.
October 11st is the first SAT on this Fall. Not sure if there is enough time before application deadline. However,
school officials tend to accept score if it’s a bit late after app deadline is over. Ask school officials during summer through email or phone. I know several cases that students send scores a bit after deadline. Unless you choose to send scores no matter what you got before you know your score, it shouldn’t be a problem.

Now for ED…there is a condition you need to follow.
First, you can’t apply for other ED school or SCEA-single choice Early Action.
You can apply to EA schools ONLY IF Upenn allows you, which it does. If you accidentally apply to another ED, then your admission will be withdrawn…and you may be on school’s black list.

In case you don’t know what EA is, EA stands for early action, where you apply for schools early but have no responsibility to attend. Naturally it generally has lower acceptance than ED(some exceptions, maybe) You can apply to other EA schools.
SCEA is a single choice Early action, where you apply to ONLY ONE EA school and have no obligation to attend there. kinda like ED. You can’t apply to another EA or ED schools. Don’t make that mistake!

2nd, if UPenn is your absolutely first choice, prepare for shock in case you get rejected. Is Upenn the best school for you? Certainly it has great internship/undergraduate research opportunities. However, please look for colleges that have great opportunities as well. Like W&L or Vassar college.

3rd, this applies to only some schools(i forgot what they are) but you may not get financial aid if you do ED…or may not give you a good aid. Ask school about it…idk about Upenn because I did RD(and got rejected LOL)

4th, you can’t re apply if you get rejected. However if you get deferred you have a chioce: regular decision or just withdraw.

In conclusion, unless you are 100% sure you love to go to Upenn, don’t do ED. It’s binding, remember. Unless you show good arguments regarding financial situation to Upenn, you HAVE to go. Also, since you are applying to ED with financial aid, the chance that you will get in will actually be lower than ED acceptance rate that’s shown on the website.

@paul2752‌ Thank you all for this information, the problem is that i do not have any source of information except for the internet, but whenever i start a research, i easily get lost and overwhelmed with all the information! Don’t worry, i already know that my chances for upenn are very very low, so i will definitely look for more match/safety schools!

(as a little conclusion of what you said about ED & EA, if i apply ED to upeen (which is a bad point for FA), i can apply to another EA only to be sure not to make any mistake!)

Upenn is reach for ANYONE, so don’t get discouraged.

and again, ask school whether you will get less aid from ED admission or get same aid as you would get from RD.

@paul2752‌ Is it fine if i send my question by e-mail ?

if you want, yes.

However, considering detailed policies, ask schools directly. Just PM me here because I get lots of emails theses days
