i'm currently a senior outside of the US, though i'm an NJ resident, and i'm looking for good colleges to consider in NJ.

i've taken honors courses in all my subjects in all my years in high school with gpa of around 3.0 and my ec's are 5 years of varsity team plus 14-16 hours of volunteer work and 3 years of joining sports clubs and 1 year of community service club. my may SAT's were 1710 (waiting for the june one)

i know i'm not exactly ivy league material but i think i can do better than "average" colleges. i'll also major in mathematics with minor in education, if it matters.

so what colleges do you think will suit my needs? please i really need suggestions because i'm clueless haha.

im top 10% of my class, btw

Are you a US citizen living overseas, or do you fall into another immigration category?

How is it that you have NJ residence?

If you are a NJ resident who is spending a year abroad with a student exchange program, or during a Gap Year, then your best help is at your old high school in the US. If you are a US citizen currently abroad and will graduate from a US-style international school, then your best help is probably in your school’s guidance office. If you are a US citizen abroad and will graduate from a national curriculum school where you are living, then your two best sources of information are friends/family back in NJ, and the advising center of [EducationUSA | Study Abroad, Student Visa, University Fairs, College Applications and Study in the U.S. / America](http://www.educationusa.info/) that is closest to where you live.

So you see, there are a lot of factors here to consider!

If you qualify for in-state tuition and fees in New Jersey, you can use any of the college-matching search engines to find which public institutions there offer your major(s). CollegeMatchmaker finds 34 public two and four year schools in NJ. [College MatchMaker: Results](<a href=“College Search - BigFuture | College Board”>College Search - BigFuture | College Board) It won’t take you long to check their websites to determine whether they would work for you.

Wishing you all the best!

thanks for the reply. yes, i’m a US citizen living overseas and my mom says i’m also an NJ residence since i’m only a minor.

the only problem i have with those college matchmakers is that they don’t really tell me much about the college, such as how their programs and academics compare with other colleges or their exact admissions selectivity, though i’ve found the SAT score stats useful.

and my mom says i’m also an NJ residence since i’m only a minor.

???

I don’t think that is the rule. Do your parents still have a home in NJ? Do they file NJ taxes? Have your parents kept their NJ residency in a way that would be legally recognized?

Simply being a minor doesn’t mean that you have residency in a state that you once lived in.

please, leave my residency out of the question for a while. i would just really want to know where to get started on my college search.

[to clear things up, my parents live in NJ, they pay taxes and work there. i, myself have never been there]

^^
Oh good…your parents have residency, so you do, too.

For schools…look at …

Rutgers
College of New Jersey
Ramapo College

If you know how much your parents will pay, that will also help us make recommendations… If you don’t know, ask them.
