Hello all, I've decided to apply for admissions to certain colleges for spring 2014. Now, my colleges of choice are:

Miami University
University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign
Virginia Tech
Pennsylvania State University
University of Arizona

Now, my 10th marks are 85% and 9th are around 82%. (State Board). 12th marks are yet to come out. Considering that my SAT scores are around 2000, which of these colleges do I stand to get admitted to? Thanks in advance.

Those 11th marks are gonna bite you in the ARSE, fyi.
I slacked off in 11th too, but still got a 70% somehow. And, this is coming from a person who is the president of procrastination.

Oh no, I didnt say that.
If you have a fairly decent score in 12th, legit LoR and adequate EC’s then I think you have a shot at most of them. Although, I would recommend you choose some safety schools. You know, just incase.

Will it help if i retake SAT and score around 2200-2300? I’ve read that for international students they give more importance to standardized tests. Do Universities verify EC’s for international students? I have good EC’s, I play lawn tennis, guitar, grade 3 piano player, theatre stuff in school. Also a voracious reader. Also, I had some personal reasons for the 11th marks being terrible, could I tell them about it?

Yes you can definitely give them an explanation for why your 11th marks were terrible. Mind you, make sure it comes across as an explanation and not an excuse.
It would help if your guidance counselor could explain it in his/her recomendation.

You can always try, but they unfortunately put 2/3 on your grades. So maybe that should get you in, SAT, ECs and everything else only encompass 1/3 of your decision. So if your 12th grades are pretty descent, you have a legit shot.

Young you don’t apply for financial aid, you need not worry.

My friend got 55% in 11th and got into most of the college you mentioned above, and some other good ones like rose hulman with 5K scholarship.
You’ll get in with approx 2000 SAT or equivalent ACT.

But if you’re applying for financial aid, set your sights lower but check out SDSMT. It’s a great school for an engineering major, its really cheap, and it produces graduates with the 12th highest average starting salary in the US (60K average).
