Need help from computer savvy CCers

Hi,

AIM is like half of my life. But for the past week there has been a serious problem on my AIM. I used AIMFix and that doesnt work to remove the problem.

What happens is that when ever I start my AIM, and start my messenger and type, it freezes for a couple of seconds and then this "AIM has encountered a problem" sign shows up and the AIM closes automatically. A couple of days ago I downloaded from Smiley Central, was the problem originated from there? Please help me !

Thanks

I haven't really had this problem with AIM, but do you have a newer version? Sometimes after a version of something gets old it stops working.

After the problem happened, I downloaded the newest version thinking that the problem will go away, but it still exists.

Well if that's not the problem, try uninstalling Smiley Central. I don't use that, but I think I have an idea what it is.

Actually, how long have you had this problem, because it might be related to something completely different?

That could be a big start. Smiley Central is major spyware and messes up a lot of your HD. I would delete anything to do with Smiley Central (slap yourself for being so lame :)) Then reinstall AIM.

Its been three days so far.

Yeah, do what Joev said. I didn't know there was spyware on that....thank goodness I never downloaded that. My computer is almost crawling with them as it is.

Every time anything happens to my computer its almost always a result of spyware or a minor virus. I'd download spybot search and destroy, and MS anti-spywayre (its a shareware menaing that you can only use it free temporarily) for spywayre, and McAfee anti virus for virus scans. I'd then go to pcpitstop.com and run their full diagnostic of tests, and take their suggestions.

Also, if you're using IE, you should seriously consider switching to FireFox. Not only is it faster (except on the very low end PC's that aren't running XP or Linux), but its far more secure, and has convenience features such as tabbed browsing.

I'm thinking you could be some missing registry files.

Let me ask you this.
What O/S are you running on?
Do you have all your IE updates?
Do you have anti-virus/spyware removal software?

Right now there is two different things you can do to fix the problem. Perhaps more if you give me the above information.

1: If aim is that big of a deal to you, you could reinstall windows.
2. Use trillian. I don't even run aim anymore after finding out how much better trillian is. http://www.trillian.cc/

*The best way to go about, would be to uninstall Aim, and just use trillian. Your account will still be on Aim's servers, so your S/N's are still there.

I am running on Windows XP
I think I downlaoded IE 6
I dowloaded AVG, but it takes forever to scan (like an hour) and come up with no results. Strange....

I use ad-aware and spyware doctor for my spyware detectors. Google them and use them it doesn't take that long to scan for u can set it to quick scan if u want.

AOL is spyware, and the adaware program found it and removed the spyware files. So now AIM says hey, you deleted all of our tracking software. So were not going to work any more. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Accuctly, I don't know if you guys remember this with Kazaa a while ago. But I remember running Adaware, and once it found some spyware programs from Kazaa. So Kazaa gave me a message saying. It wouldn't work, until I reinstalled Kazaa, and removed Adaware. I mean I doubt that is the problem, and like I stated Trillian is the best way to go. But I just thought I'd bring it up.

AOL+Spyware=AIM Adaware+AIM= Corrupt files :D

Kinglin, THANK YOU VERY MUCH DUDE! It worked. It may take some time to get use to it, but I really appreciated your advice. Thank you!

Trillian is soooo much better. Not that anyone uses MSN or yahoo messenger or even ICQ, but it's still cool cause of all the skins and ****. anything to erraticate any semblance of AOL from my comp. AOL sux

trillian kicks ass wow so useful. MSN + AIM good.

How do I change screen names on trillian?

DeadAIM is a pretty good program as well.

Load up Trillian, Click "trillian" up top, then click "connections", followed by "manage my accounts". Once your in there, go to "Add connection" at the bottom. Then from there, you should know what to do.

what is a CCer?
