Ok, here's the deal:

I got accepted to UCI through the TAG agreement as a Biology major. The terms of my TAG agreement is that I complete the Math course I'm taking right now with a C or better this semester. Basically, I screwed up and I'm in danger of getting a bad grade in the class. I know I will get worse than a C, and I know if I withdraw from the class and get a W I break the TAG agreement. Am I pretty much screwed or is there a way to tell UCI if I can get a W but retake the course in the summer before I transfer? The class is a required course, I don't know what to do. Please help me out guys, thanks a bunch.

That’s what happened to me through TAG, I breached the contract by falling under the required GPA, however, just b/c you don’t have a TAG doesn’t mean you can’t get accepted…you still are considered a regular applicant with just as good of a chance as any other transfer student, (this is assuming you have a decent GPA, unlike me b/c I slacked)

If you drop out from the class, you have zero chance. Even you apply w/o TAG, the campus still need you to complete all pre-req w/ the grade above C. Otherwise, they can reject your admission. So if I were you, I will try my best to raise the grade of that class above C. Even though that might cause me have another C in other classes. I believe most of the CCC has 6 or 7 weeks left. Right? Don’t give up so easily!

I currently have a very similar situation, but i lucked out (so i think). My major at UCSD is a Computer Science major and I am transferring through TAG. And i have already gotten accepted. So anyways…

I am doing horrible in my physics class and I wanted to drop it before i got an F and screwed up my GPA and lost the transfer. So i decided i called UCSD and talked to the admissions people and they said my major was not impacted anymore meaning i could still transfer with out all of my math and physics being completed. So Kudos to me. I lucked out. It wasn’t like this 2 years or a year ago. SO yeah, call up UCI and see what they say. I recall stressing out that morning i realized i was going to fail my physics test and i stayed up all night till 9am waiting for the folks at UCSD to pick up their dam phone. haha

Call them up in 45 mins. i think thats when they open, explain your situation and see what they say. UCSD said a W wouldn’t effect me.

only half the term is up and I know you don’t want to hear this…but it is probably the best option

Get your grade up in that class, if you have to drop one of the fluff classes that wasn’t required so it frees you up for the math class, do it and let irvine know about that…but work really hard at getting your grade up instead of dropping out and opening up a whole new can of worms

the ramifications of getting an F,D, or W are much worse than working really hard and pulling your grade above a C

I really do hate to be that guy who says “just try harder” but from my perspective, it’s the smarter thing to do

you’ll get through this
Best of luck!

you would have to call UCI admissions ASAP and find out all the details and make sure they are a reliable source, not just a student worker running through questions with no real concern for the person on the other side of the phone. also, maybe a C is possible, have you talked to the teacher and explained your situation? most teachers are pretty understanding when it comes to the importance of transfering so see if that helps as well. either way, a W will not do anything to you and the only thing you would really be left with is the relief of not having to worry about the class and an extra class to take for your major once you transfer or in the summer, whatever they think best if that’s a possible way to do things.

your screwed. Breaking the TAG agreement will ruin your guarentee acceptance to UCI. Yet like other posters have said, you can still have the possibility of be accepted without TAG. So don’t give up hope.

You’re not going anywhere without that class. Hire a tutor and get your grade up to a C. I can’t imagine that you have done so bad that a C is out of reach. I mean c’mon Cs aren’t exactly hard to come by.

Thanks for the replies, guys. So it looks like I’m going to have to turn this grade around. If I end up getting a D, does that mean they will rescind my acceptance? Damn, I’m such an idiot.

There should be free tutors at your CC…use your free times to go get help there

First thing’s first, GO TO AN OFFICE HOUR with your prof and see how bad the situation is, and what you can do at this point. Spring break’s coming up, use that to your advantage. Surely you have at least one more test to go, not to mention your final.

Definitely let your professor know your situation. As others have also said, tutoring, office hours all work. You really need to work! If you know for a fact that you won’t be able to make up the C, call UCI admissions and let them know…>__<;;

Best of luck!

Best of luck bro. The last semester is usually the hardest. It seems like you’re so close but you’re still so far away.
