I don't where to go I did the sir for uc urvine but my parents are making me regret it by saying that I won't I've enough money to have gas to go home on weekends I live about an hour away) my other option is uc riverside which is closer to home
Both gave similar financial aid if I live on campus but my parents say that if I go to UCI I won't have money to do stuff outside of college and that if I live closer to home then they can help me if I need extra money I don't know what to do!? Help me!
Can financial aid cover personal things?

First of all, there’s NO REASON to go home every weekend. You’ll be too busy to go home every weekend. There will be things to do on campus and with friends on weekends.

There’s no reason to go home more than once every 6 weeks or so or more.

If you go to UCR, why will your parents magically have more money to help you? That doesn’t make sense. That just sounds like bribe money to have you go to UCR.

What is in EACH aid pkg? How much did each give for grants? loans? work study?

FA might cover personal things…it depends on your pkg…tell us what is in each pkg.

How much can you earn over the summer for a summer job?

When you do that, take a good long look at the factors that each institution includes in the Cost of Attendance. There may be items that you wouldn’t need to pay for at all, or at least where you wouldn’t have to pay everything that appears in the university’s estimate.
