I am admitted for fall 2012 as a transfer student. My major is EECS. I want to take summer classes at Cal via Transfer Edge. Unfortunately, Cal doesnt allow me to meet with a counselor because I am not officially their student yet. I will take CS 70, which is 4 units, and I will need 2 more units to qualify for financial aid. Will it be a disaster if I take CS 61A (4 units) as well? I really don't want to get myself overwhelmed and I want to get good grades. Do you guys have any recommendation for my summer classes?

i am taking two classes myself. they also have an American Cultures requirement, have you fulfilled that? you can also just drop by your department and talk to the coordinator. their name will be listed on the assist.org site. yay! it will be fun to take summer classes, i am really looking forward to it.

I have done the American Culture Requirement at my local community college, and I just want to find an easy class to take to qualify for financial aid.
I hope you will enjoy your summer at Cal : )

ah, have you checked the online searchable course schedule?

[Search Summer - Online Schedule Of Classes](http://schedule.berkeley.edu/srchsmr.html)

okay, i know it seems silly that i am posting this link. but it took me a while to find the link that lets you search by various means. just check the minimum units you need and search that way? are you sure we only need 6 units by the way for financial aid? not sure if they have PE classes but one of the counselors at Cal mentioned that PE classes were 2.5 units? not sure if that is correct. PE classed make me crazy, so i don’t want to take one myself, but she said most students like to take it.

oh, the reason i ask about the 6 units is because i think we need 13 for full time at Cal for Fall 2012 full time status? i only needed 12 at my CC. i am not sure about any of this, just getting the swing of things myself. so keep me posted.

CS 70 and CS 61A would be a common pair for new transfers to EECS or L&S CS who were not able to get those courses at CC, since taking those will cover needed prerequisites for upper division CS courses. If you intend to emphasize EE more than CS and have not taken EE 40 at CC, you may want to consider EE 40.

Since you will need at least two upper division humanities or social studies courses, you may want to consider those courses as well if you do not need or cannot get the lower division technical courses listed above. http://coe.berkeley.edu/students/current-undergraduates/requirements/hss-humanities-current-list/HSS%20NEW%20REQ.pdf

Since a summer session is about 8 weeks, the 8 units should be a similar workload as 15 units of similar courses in a 15 week semester.

Sorry for responding so late, I have been busy working on my final these days.

@northbeach I am pretty sure we need 6 units to qualify for financial aid. You can go to your MyFinAid account, and check the summer session.

@ucbalumnus Thank you so much, your links are very helpful!! I am now planning to take CS 70 (4 units) and Statistic 2 (4 units). CS is for my major requirement. And Statistic is just to make myself qualify for financial aid. I know it is very dumb to do this, but I really want to have more time to focus on my CS 70 to get a better GPA (kind of scared about the workload and pressure at UCB :P). The Statistics class is an introductory class, so I think the workload will be much lighter, and easier to get an A.
