Need help in picking a J-School.

I have lived in California my whole life, and when I go to college I don't really want to go out of state. I know there's a lot of well-reputated j-schools in the midwest/east (eg. U of Missour-Columbia, Syracuse, Northwestern, etc), but could anyone name any good colleges in the west, preferably in cali that known for journalism (broadcast)? Also, my friend was telling me that I should do a major in something like business, poli-sci, etc at a UC here, and then go to a school either in the east coast or a school such as Stanford which only has a graduate program. Would this be a better path?
Sorry for the long question, I'm just trying to figure out which path would give me the best training to be the best broadcast journalist that I can.
Thanks

USC! Top broadcast program in the country.

If you want to do broadcast on the West Coast, USC is your best option. They have the professors, program, and most importantly, connections. If you can afford the school, go for it!
