Hey guys! Due to scheduling conflicts, I will be forced to relocate a class to my free time in the form of an online class. After consultations with ratemyteacher, I have discovered that my current schedule contains an above average AP Calculus BC teacher and a moderate to an above average AP United States History teacher.

If I were to take one of these classes online, which would you recommend?

Few points I included for sake of choice:

I will have a busy junior year and need to know which one would cause the least amount of hassle. I know that online classes function differently that real-life classes.

In reference to point 1, I believe that taking AP Calculus BC online would be a better choice. However, the online school (preferred as it has a relationship with my school) I am looking at only has Calculus AB, so I would need to study BC by myself.

I am concerned about the idea of essay writing in an online AP United States History test. For Calculus BC, all you need to do is understand the material, do practice problems, and apply that knowledge on tests. I feel as though doing essays by means of a computer or what not would be artificial as to a real-life classes. In a classroom situation, I would also be less tempted to cheat (as I know it's possible to cheat in online classes).

i dont know which online school your looking at but i would take APUSH online because its just memorization and doesn’t contain conceptual stuff that would be desired in a real class setting like BC Calc.

Psychology would be a good one to take online. At least for my online thing, it’s only 1 semester and it’s actually really easy. It just requires a lot of time and essay writing and such.

I’m in a similar situation. From what I gather, APUSH is built on reading. The essays will be much easier if you’re a good writer but if you’re not, there are always extra books at Barnes and Nobles about historical analysis. You could just digest the information from those and put in your own thoughts.

On the other hand, Calc is about doing, not reading. I would rather be in a class for this.

Writing takes more time than typing, period. Time is of the essence during junior year. Think about it. Would you rather write 500 words in class or type 500 words at home, with the ability to look up facts while typing?

And if you take APUSH online with a ergonomic keyboard, that means no hand fatigue. Hand fatigue becomes an issue after gripping a pen for extended periods of time.

And some people do get to type their APUSH essay in May.

^ I agree. It also depends on what your good at. If your good at/interested in APUSH, you can take it online and take Calc BC at school if you aren’t as good in math. You can also do it the other way around. What online school are you looking at? I know that Florida Virtual School offers both courses online, but if you’re out of state, it would cost you some money. It’s free for Florida students.

Either way… I will have to write the essays in pen and pencil. Although time is of an essence, nothing could prepare me better for the hand-fatigue than a mimicked environment. Get off me. :D
