@ClassicRockerDad the OP is premed. Whether that means he’ll end up in a lucrative field is anyone’s guess. Premeds need to MINIMIZE undergrad debt because med school is so friggin’ expensive. Med students can easily end up with $300k of debt…particularly ones like this student because he’s not instate for any.
As for additional undergrad loans, the student’s parents don’t live in the US and it appears that they are debt-adverse, so taking on additional loans won’t likely be possible anyway. The parents may not be US citizens, even tho the student is (lots of young folks were American-born while their int’l parents studied here)
This student needs to focus on schools where he’ll get nearly a free ride for his stats. UAB wants more OOS students and can be very generous. Excellent choice for a premed. Miss State is very generous to those with strong stats. (He has about an ACT 33 with his 1470 old SAT)
If he’s serious about med school, and he’s OOS for all, he needs to hook-up with a state that will give preference to an OOS student who went to school in that state. Alabama does that. That’s why going to UAB would be a good choice…he’d have a tie to UAB and USA SOMs. He should apply to UAH as well, and then see if one will give more money.
