I have narrowed down my ED choices to Middlebury and Swarthmore. Although I visited both schools, I did so over the summer when there were few students on campus to whom I could talk. The problem with this decision is that each school appeals to a different facet of my personality. For example, while I am enticed by the intellectually passionate atmosphere of Swarthmore, I love Middlebury's campus and "outdoorsy" ethos. (Needless to say, Swarthmore has a gorgeous campus, but it is seemingly more compact because of its suburban location.) Plus, I get the feeling that Middlebury's facilities are nicer; however, you may care to differ on that issue.

Academically, I want to pursue philosophy. I'm extremely passionate about philosophy and would not be surprised if I went to graduate school to study it. Therefore, school reputation is very important to me. I know that Swarthmore does produce an impressively large number of graduate students at excellent programs, but I wonder if Middlebury has a comparable track record.

Socially, I am all over the place. I do not hang out with a homogeneous group of students and hope not to in college. While one day you may see me discussing Rawls, another you may see me rooting on the New York Knicks. Moreover, my hope is to be at a school where everyone is intellectually passionate and driven, but also interested in doing other things.

I would greatly appreciate any insight.
Thanks.
