Need Help of the CC Experts

My guidance counselor helped me make a list of 7 colleges I may apply to (I am a junior), and I just wanted to have her views on my college chances critiqued by a few CCers:

~4.7 Weighted GPA (~3.75 UW)
Top 5% out of 400-Hardest Course Load Possible
680 CR - 720 M - 650 Writing
Extra Currics - 3 year varsity basketball-Captain, Various Community Service Activities, Work 15 Hours a Week, NHS, Span Hon. Society, FBLA, Scholar Athlete Awards,

My 7 colleges are ranked by her views on my chances at admission:

Huge Reach: Williams (My parents however, are close family friends with an adcom who has been begging for us to come visit-would that help at all?)
Reach: Northwestern and U Chicago (What if I applied ED?)
Match: Colgate and Carleton-> (Said I have a good chance at Carleton because I am legacy of a yearly contributor (Dad went to Carleton))
Safety: UMICH-Ann Arbor

Are these good guesses-Feel free to argue against any of my GC's claims, I do not want her to get my hopes up for nothing :)

Pretty much correct, except U Chicago is only a slight reach. Also, if you are out-of-state for UMich it is a safe match, but not a safety. If you're instate I'm not sure. U Chicago has an early action program, not early decision. This means it is not binding and also you can apply elsewhere early action or early decision. If your first choice is Northwestern or Williams, apply to that place ED. I think you'd have a great chance at Northwestern ED. If Chicago is your first choice, don't apply elsewhere ED, but definately whether or not Chicago is your first choice apply there EA.

Also, make sure you apply to Michigan very early. That seems to make a big difference.

Chocolate is on the money.

What can somone reccomend as a safety then. I was looking for a school with a high acceptance rate, above average economics program and grad school placement (similar to Umichigan-aa).

Thank you very much chocolate-does anyone disagree with them? I do not want to be too hopeful.

Hmm...maybe try University of Rochester? Can he consider that a safety?

i second the u-rochester recommendation as a safety, also maybe kenyon? (that'd be more of a safe match though) or u-pittsburgh?

brandeis university- top 30, gives lots of financial aid, respected in the eyes of business schools, has onr of the top econ programs in the country

^ brandeis.... i really doubt that
