So I started doing a very rough draft of a college essay (it's actually for an English class, but I want to take it seriously and eventually adapt it into my actual college app essay).

I'm at a crossroads right now. I've tried three prompts and I seem to always be overly serious/generic/dramatic or trying to be too humorous.

My latest one is using the UC prompt How do you feel about Wednesday?" I feel like it is decent for a rough draft (esp considering I have 5-6 months to work on it...), but I feel like it doesn't really show people any deep reflection....

Any advice on making an essay more personal? Should I ditch the humorous/offbeat prompts? I'm always attracted to them, as I consider myself a bit of an oddball, but I don't know what adcoms will think.

Thanks for any advice. Anyone want to volunteer to read the essay? I honestly don't like it right now.
