Well, it is your responsibility to come up with one. Chicago is judging you and your ideas, not someone else and his or her ideas.

It wouldn't be an honest acceptance if you used someone else's idea.

Just sit down and write. You can do it.

Vagrant Star,

If you are really stuck, the first prompt is probably easiest to approach. They are asking you to write an honest page about yourself. That can be anything you want. Look inside yourself and ask what you'd want to tell the admissions people about yourself, your background, and your hopes if you had them held captive in a room.

Remember that you have a lot more freedom than with the common app personal statement. Your essay can be 500 words or it can be double that or even more. Just make sure every word is important.

don't worry about fresh or creative just yet. For my "why uchicago" essay, I first made a very bland list. Then I forced myself to write about it, and found that without even trying, I had made it unique and even entertaining. It's impossible to keep your personality out of these essays. Just make a list, write about it, and you'll be fine. If you're still not happy, you can always edit it, but you'll have something to start with.

I don't know about you all, but I got bombed with UChicago stuff. They mailed me like three packets (two of which were identical), the course catalogue, postcards etc. If you have the packets or the catalogue, I strongly suggest going through those. Lots of stuff to inspire your essays.
