Need help on Job choices

Hey guys, I am currently a freshmen finishing up my first year at UCSD.

My major is Bioengineering and right now I have a job as a lab assistant in a plant molecular biology lab. My main duties are dish cleaning and media preparations.

My question is whether or not to keep this job in my sophomore year. This job is good for my resume but I am wondering if it's possible to get a more research oriented job.
I know a lot of researchers want juniors and seniors for the better research positions but since I have some experience already, I'm not sure if that helps me any.

I was thinking about getting some interviews early before the start of next year for the better positions and if I don't get them, I still have my back up job at the lab.

What do you guys think of my chances?

if you know that profs/researchers want upperclassmen for better research positions, i would suggest that you stick w/ the current job for one more yr before trying to advance...as w/ the real world...sometimes it's hard to advance before having the number of yrs on the job or the experience that employers think are requirements of the more advanced posts

I would stick with it, because if you do, for your upperclassmen years you're more attractive for the positions you want. You don't have a great chance at getting these research positions anyway, just because of the emphasis on upperclassmen.
