I know my stats fall low so I need a great "why NYU" essay. I've visited many times, I LOVE EVERYTHING about it. But What are some words that would describe NYU? for example, Duke - athletes. Harvard - rich geniuses, Yale - jocks, Brown - eccentric students.

Whats the theme for NYU other than city? I really want to draw a strong link between Nyu and me but I just need the right words to express on paper how much I love it.

Honestly, this late in the game, if you need to ask someone for help, you’re far behind the 8-ball. Are you applying ED or RD? Big difference.

Anyways, no one on this board can provide you with the information you want. If someone does say some advice about what you “could” write, chances are what they tell you is probably ubiquitous among what most prospective students will write. You should seriously just lock yourself in a quiet room in a library in the middle of nowhere, and write your heart out. If NYU doesn’t want you for who you are inside, screw NYU. Don’t use any other person’s ideas. Write your own essay, supplements, commonapp, and then come back. I am sorry if this sounds blunt, but I hoped to be succinct to the point and direct.

I actually already have an essay done but I’m making many revisions to it. and I’m looking for a ubiquitous answer. I want to know what students outside of NYU and in NYU think of the college itself and how they stereotype it. I just need their opinions to double confirm mine to make my essay more accurate i guess but then again stereotypes vary with the students and can be very fickle. Just as how brown looks for unique and eccentric students, I was just wondering if NYU had a particular taste for students as well.

From what I know, NYU looks for the unique and eccentric students too. The artsy type, the independent-minded type. (Well, depends on the school you’re applying to, though. Doubt that Stern looks for the artsy type in particular. :P)

Yeah, I’m having a hard time understanding why you’re looking for stereotypes. If you fit NYU and you write an essay that reflects that (without going “oh, I’m so ____ (independent, artsy, or whatever other word you think NYU is looking for)”), then NYU should be able to see that. For example, applying to uchicago we had to write an extra essay, and you know that the school is known for being nerdy/studyaholics/etc. Did I write an essay going “look at me, all I do is study all day I am the perfect match pick me pick me”? No, I just wrote an essay that reflected my own ideals/habits/whatever. It worked.

Pakistan – no offense, but I find it to be rather offensive to attack someone for how late/early they’re starting an essay. I did all mine holiday break (like a week before the deadline) and got into some wonderful places… including NYU.

Instead of “why you love it” essay, why don’t you write about some thing you are passionate for, like your music, or why you would be an asset to the NYU community. Adcoms don’t really care why you love NYU, they want to know what makes you tick.
What have you done to make you an interesting prospect for the school. These are just suggestions. Have your GC read what you have and get some input.
If your stats are low, you really have to have that extra punch and WOW factor for them to consider you.
