so i went to APA day May 16th and chose expository, chem, bio, and calculus as my classes. because the guy who was giving the presentation for bio major said to sign up for chem, bio, and calc.

but now that i've been thinking and talking to people. chem and bio together for the first semester will be tough. cause i'm getting used to college and i don't know how they will be.

do you have any suggestions or what to take instead and how can i change the courses i signed up for.

i'm thinking i will talk expos, chem, calc, and something else.

and then take bio 101 with chem 2 the second semester with calc.

but what else should i take the first semester to have like 15 credits.

and how do i inform them i want to remove/add classes.

I don’t know how to answer your question but to have chem/bio/expository 1/calc all in one semester is a HORRIBLE idea.
those are probably the hardest classes youll take in first two years(not including expos 2)
Bad idea, theres other classes that are easier and are required to take. (Id imagine classes like psych 101 and philosophy, you’re required to take those classes no matter what major you take… im pretty sure.)

change your schedule before you kill yourself your first semester.

i suggest perhaps taking bio, calc, expos, perhaps. I would take bio then chem then orgo then physics, so I would want to take chem and then subsequently orgo. lurker said on another thread that they have nothing to do with each other but they’re still chem, you know?

hmm so other introductory easy classes – gen psych? I don’t think philosophy is very easy though, i have some friends who took it. maybe fill it up with some byrne seminars. I didn’t take any, and I kind of regret it.

Although I do agree that these classes, taken all at the same time, are going to be extremely difficult, it’s what needs to be done. Based on the extreme competition to get into medical school, you must be able to hit the ground running. I know that I will suffer, but I also know that I need to take these classes to be up to par with everyone else. There are people that already AP’d out of Bio and Chem and are going to be taking Physics and Orgo in the Fall, and will be much farther ahead than those of us who do not have the AP credits.

I heard someone else say this a couple of days ago: If you cannot handle taking Bio, Chem, and Calc at the same time, you will not be able to handle the rigor of the rest of your college career, as well as your medical school life.

I don’t mean to disappoint anyone, but I think that at this day and age, when everyone is fighting for the few seats that there are in medical schools, you must be willing to take the hardest classes and do the best you can.

Chemistry 161 is typically taken first semester of your freshman year. Chemistry 162 is taken second semester of your freshman year. If you take Chem 161 during second semester (spring season), it’ll be significantly easier - you’ll be with the idiots that failed the first time. The same can probably be said about biology and calculus as well. Classes are always easier on the off season.
