Need Help: Project to Support our Troops

Team Service Academy Parents:

My 16-year old daughter (junior in High School) just came to me and said she wants to start a project in her high school to support our troops in Iraq, Afghanistan and everywhere else they are in harm's way. She asked for suggestions as to what the project might be. Unfortunately we live in a town that voted 80 percent for Kerry and has vocal parents opposed to anything military (even though we lost 20 of our fellow citizens on 9.11). I'm hopeful that students from these households will still understand the sacrifice that their fellow citizens are making for them.

Any ideas as to a project my daughter might get rolling to help the troops? Any information about projects you know about at other high schools?

Thanks in advance.

Here's one idea BG. My family members participate in the following using the USPS $7.70 flat rate boxes. When you read some of the profiles the soldiers leave and the requests for needed items, you might find it a good fit.

There are many things to be done to help out there and I wish your daughter the best in finding more ideas. She has a BIG heart.

BG,

My company has been sending care packages to Iraq as the son of an employee is stationed there. We just received his thank you for all of the snack food for Christmas, but he especially mentioned that they love the dvd's. They are excited about being able to see new movies as they get a bit bored by seeing the same ones over and over.

Our small town has been collecting and sending toiletries to wounded servicemen in Germany...

I second momoftwins DVD suggestion.

One of our former boy scouts is stationed in Iraq and says the fast action/high adventure and comedy movies are big hits. Although the more recent movies are preferred, he says any good movie is appreciated and helps pass the time.

Biggreen: Maybe your daughter could set up a collection for dvd's and music cd's.

if you have a dv-r, record currents seasons of shows like dave chapell and family guy ( i dunno exactly how leeeegal this is, but...)
