I'm an international student applying to the us and would like some feedback on college selection.
Stats :
Sat 2120 770m 690w 660r
Sat2 November probably both 800s in math/phys
Gpa about 4.0
Done o level a level Cambridge courses straight A's in those
Decent extracurriculars

I plan on majoring in engineering (mechanical probably) and have no such issue with location or size.
I can pay about $15k-$20k fees.

I would appreciate if someone could recommend some safeties and reach schools based on my stats, thanks.

Safety:
American university, Northeastern University, Penn state university

Thanks for the reply. AU and northeastern seem like pretty solid choices I’ll look into those some more. Any suggestions for some reach colleges.

None of those three schools would be safeties. Your family can’t pay for them.

A safety MUST be affordable. You MUST know that you have all costs covered by either ASSURED aid or family funds.

Those three schools would admit you, but then hand you a big bill. So how would those be your safeties???

Since your family can pay up to $20k per year, that means that you need to find schools that will FOR SURE give you a full tuition scholarship for your stats. THAT WAY, your parents’ money can pay for room, board, books, fees, insurance, transporation, and personal expenses.

I understand therefore a safety college for me would be one where I will be sure that I can get a scholarship from. So from the above do you think I can get tuition scholarship?

No, you won’t likely get a full tuition scholarship from PennState, NEU, or AU.

I don’t think PSU gives any aid to int’ls. They hardly give any to domestics…lol.

Again, if you have to “hope” for a full tuition scholarship, then it’s not a safety. You have to be SURE that you have all costs covered with an ASSURED scholarship and/or family funds.

You need to look here (and see if int’ls also qualify)
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/16145676-post285.html

For example, Alabama would give you free tuition AND they do give it to int’ls, but you have to apply soon. Plus, as an eng’g major, Bama would give you an additional 2500 per year. That is a good financial safety because you’d know that you’d have all costs covered. The apps are easy, so do those. You must submit the scholarship app as well, even tho the merit is assured for stats.

So do you know any places that give aid/scholarships to int’ls.(except for ivy leagues)

Sorry didnt see your entire post ill try that link but your suggestions are welcome.

Keep in mind, at schools that give full tuition scholarships, your stats would have to high in the upper quartile.

You have a 1460 M+Cr (about an ACT 33), so look where those stats are HIGH within the upper quartile…at schools that GIVE a good number of free tuition scholarships.

That link above will give you some good leads.

Alright thanks for the advice.
