need help to understand this writing question

For this writing question:
Susan is best known for her historical accounts that focus on ordianary lives, especially that of women, rather than on other social events.

In this sentence, the correct answer is that "that of" is wrong, but I don't understand why it is wrong.

The phrase “that of” is incorrectly modifying lives"

It should be “those of,” since it modifies “lives” and thus needs to be plural.

Since “that” is singular, “that of women” means “the life of women” (“life” is singular), which doesn’t make sense. “life” should be “lives,” and “that” should be “those.”

Thanks everyone - my grammar skills are not that good. And, I have just started practicing for SAT writing.
