need help transferring to UCI

hello everyone, I am in my second year (third semester) or California community college currently and am just a few weeks into my statistics class (and I have confidence I will pass), however I’m very nervous because I know I should have taken it earlier to qualify for TAG and because schools prefer it. I need to transfer to UCI so I can commute, and while my GPA is a 3.7 and all other requirements are met, I am worried they will turn me down over this. Do you think it will be ok when my transcripts are submitted and they see I passed? Or should I plan on having to reapply next time :frowning:

Since you only have until September 30 to submit your TAG, go in to speak to a transfer counselor at your CC about this as soon as you can.

Although you should be fine, since in the TAG you’re projecting your courses for both semesters this year, but better safe than sorry.

My transfer counselor said I was not eligible to submit my TAG because I am just taking math now and would have needed to have finished it my summer of 2019, but I am hopeful that there is a possibility of being accepted without TAG? Or do you think when they open my application and see my math class is still in progress they will deny me?
Thank you!

You would just apply as a regular transfer applicant and not a TAG applicant. You will update your Fall grades in January when you submit your TAU along with in progress classes for Spring.

@dashaaaya Each of the UCs offering TAG have this fall as the math deadline, except Irvine. So just choose another UC to TAG.

People get in all the time without TAG. And having the math in fall is fine as they will see the grade. I would certainly apply and not wait a year. You didn’t say what your major was but a 3.7 is generally pretty strong. Check here for the mid-range transfer GPAs by major:
