hey everyone…
im international and applying to bates rd…
anyhooo, i plan to apply for need based financial aid, and on the bates website it says that we CAN submit the css profile if we want to in addition to the bates certification of finances… sooo basically the submission of the CSS profile is not compulsory is it?
then again, in the form provided on the bates profile, it says that i have to certify funds of 59k…since im applying for aid i cant certify that…so do i leave that area blank???

the rd deadline is soon and i think the college is closed for the holidays…
any help will be greatly appreciated!!!

oh and for some reason the common app says that i have to pay the application fee…even tho it says on the website that international applicants do not have to pay it! any suggestions regarding that aswell?

As a U.S. citizen, it is compulsory to submit the CSS to receive aide. I think another international student, or even better, sending an email or calling Financial aide is the best idea, since I am sure no one here wants to give you the wrong advice with so much on the line. Best of luck!

Hi I’m and international and I think I can help! No, the CSS profile is not required, but if you think it will give Bates more information about your financial situation that would help them assess how much need you should receive, then you should look into sending in the profile as well.

On Bates’ form, there should be an space in which to write how much exactly you are willing to pay in order to attend Bates, and the bottom signatures and declaration are there to certify that the information you have provided is reliable and true. There shouldn’t be anything asking you to certify that you can pay 59k.

are u talking about the bates international financial form? coz on page 4 section C, right after they ask the mim amout of money we can pay, it says to Declaration of Finances, and they gave a statement that is supposed to be signed by a bank official…

The following statement should be signed by a bank official or other person familiar with your familys financial circumstances
(e.g., tax accountant, employer, etc.):
I certify that the above information furnished by the applicant and his or her family is to the best of my knowledge a true and accurate statement of the financial resources available to him or her for study in the United States under present regulations.

which i why i was confused…should i leave this section blank for now and send the rest of the form? do you have a different form? just in case u do, ill send u my email id in pm and could u plz send me the one u have?

That is the same form that I am talking about.

Section B is: What is the minimum total amount of money in U.S. dollars that you will have in the United States for your first year of study (including tuition)
at Bates College?

That section basically asks you the minimum amount of money you will be able to spend to go to Bates for your first year, which should be an indication of how much aid you think you need.

Section C, which you included, simply asks for somebody that knows your financial situation to certify that all the information that you have included in the form is an honest and accurate representation of your financial situation.
