Hi guys
I got accepted to UC Berkeley off the waitlist. I originally SIRd to ucla. I don’t know which one to pick. The cost would be the same for both. Also I don’t know if I’m guaranteed housing for Berkeley because online it says the housing app is due today. My major for berkely is undecided engineering. My major for UCLA is applied math. I feel like it comes down to whether I like NorCal or SoCal better. Anyone can give me pros and cons? I live very close to Berkeley so I’m not sure if I want to be so close to home. At the same time I’ve only been to SoCal 2 times so I don’t know which one to choose.
The engineering vs applied math could prove pivotal, too, especially if you want to be an engineer. What do you think?
There is a difference between engineering and applied math and it matters if you want to go into engineering. I would go with UCB solely because I think Berkeley is a good school with a strong education. Plus you are IN the engineering major.
I think that the housing deadline has been extended to May 13th and they just haven’t changed it on the website - that is what I was told when I phoned admissions.
Do you like engineering or applied math? Applied math will have a bit more flexibility whereas engineering is a fixed path with no room for mistake or you’re out of sequence. Engineering will focus more on your chosen topic, UBC Engineering is prestigious (and very rigorous), and engineering is more “concrete” than applied math.
