I've already fulfilled my math requirement by taking stats but i have 2 w's from wanting to try out Calc I. My major has nothing to do with math, and its not an impacted major, do you think this will have a major effect on my admissions, or should i take that Calc I class. By the way, its been a while since i've brushed up on calc so i might need to take precalc before I take Calc I again. Any input is welcomed.

W's are not factored into UC admissions for undergrads. Graduate school is another ball game though :x

I don't know if W's are a factor or not, but the UC's still request the number of W's in their admission app.

yeah, W's don't really hurt you unless you have... i dunno, more than 5 (just throwing a number out). This is what rep's and counselors have told me.

But then again, CCC counselors often know nothing of use. Unless you want to go to CSUN. Then they can tell you everything. (not knocking CSUN).

knock knock knocking of heaven's door.

lol....

nice.

I have 9 W's but it does not effect your chance..

If you have a W, should you or do you need to retake the class?

bluescreen - no, not necessary. just let it go, lol.

Don't worry about it. I have a friend with 2Ws in physics mechanics. Which btw was related to his major(biochem). And he still got into Cal. But this anecdote may be skewed because he had a 3.9 gpa, which is well within the top 25 percentile of accepted students.

Anyone has any anecdotes for someone with a less than steller gpa with 2+Ws that got into Cal? Say someone with a 3.5?

actually, from my CCC i've never heard of ANYONE getting into Cal with a 3.5 (in the past 2 years at least that i've been here, i know that quite a few of the 3.6's and 3.7's don't make it either. kind of stupid, if you ask me)... i'm sorry, i know that doesn't help. I have heard of people getting into UCLA, though, so that's good.

I think they look at the CC also. I go to DeAnza which has traditionally been one of Cal's feeder schools. I've known several 3.5-3.6s that made the cut.

good point. explains the oddly low GPA's getting into UCLA from my school. lol.

this was 2 years ago, but I got into cal/la/sd/uci with a W each semester (including summers) that i was at my community college. gpa was less than stellar at 3.4 or 3.5 when applying 3.6 after all was said and done. highly involved in student gov't though and extracurriculars.

according to me, and only me: Ws don't hurt your chances transferring as an undergrad to a UC school. but i denno about grad school.

y'all are lucky this year. w/ the governator's budget cuts, the UCs are about to face a 10% decrease in funding. they will face a reduction in enrollment growth for next year, so a lot more people who are probably more qualified will be denied a seat at a UC (this is if the governor's budget proposal is enacted). and if youre rejected this year, it might be because of next year's budget cuts too. vote democrat

sucks huh --damn republicans!
