Need help with applying to unis ....

I am an international student, I would like to study medicine, and i have found out that you have to do 4 years pre-med then 4 years of mid. However I also found some programs that enable you to study 8 years of medicine, without the need for pre-mid, Such as the BS/MD program. Is that right? or am I just confused?

I also need help finding a university, I would really love to study in LA, and I am wondering whether they have pre-med or BS/MD collages their?

What do you think i should do?

Are there things that i might not know but should know?

Some info about me:

-I have taken the TOEFL exam, and got 103/120. (More than any uni will ask for).

-I haven't done the SAT, i will however do it after i apply to some unis.

-I currently live in the states & have been for about a month.

-I haven't been to any uni after high school, so that makes me an Undergrad.

-I am 17 & my high school grades are high & should be enough to get me into any collage.

.... Kind regards & thx for your help

do u need aid?

USC has an 8 year program exactly like the one you described. It is, however, VERY VERY competitive. I suggest preparing well for your SAT's for a high score. USC does not offer internationals any aid so I hope you can cough up 50k/yr.

Make sure you give your sat BEFORE you apply to universities

USC seems a to fit in with what you described, However it is really really competitve to get into the program. And it will be also be expensive since your international ( 8 yeas at USC would cost you around $400,000 approx )

UCLA also has a famous medical school....i dunno if they have an 8 year joint program but be sure to research on that. (and it might also be cheaper)

The Uk or Austrailia would be a better option if you want to study medicine. Its only six years and a bit cheaper.

This is true but this won't allow you to practice medicine in the US (but European and commonwealth countries would all be ok). I am not a medical student but I know you would need to take lots of the tests again to be allowed to be a doctor in the US. This would take time and money. If you search this board there have been previous threads on this topic, with information from more knowledgeable posters than me.

I guess i have enough time to prepare for the SAT.Money shouldn't be a big prop ,as students can get government funds + my dad wouldn't mind coughing up some cash for his favorite son. LOL

1.I don't think i'll be able to do that, as i haven't started preparing yet (just got my TOEFL results yesterday) and as far as i know most deadlines are in less than a month.

2.As I've said above, it shouldn't be a big prop, also my results should be good enough for them to at least consider me (88%, it's considered pretty high in my country and would allow me to get into a medical field)

3.I've done some research and the deadline was like 2 weeks ago. starts crying

I'll have a look there.
..............................................................................

Thanks everybody i really appreciate your help.

Most respectable colleges won't consider your application without SAT or ACT scores. Test scores can usually arrive a little bit after the application deadline, but if you are not able to take the test before the application deadline your scores will most definitely arrive too late.

I thought some unis don't requirer SAT, also i found a uni which has a april 1s dead line, and i think i might be able to do it by then.

You are right, some colleges don't require SAT scores. However, I did not say "all college will not consider you application without SAT scores" but "most respectable colleges".

LOL. I guess I'm just going to have to do it before too long.
