Need Help With APUSH Decision..

my school offers american history, and then APUSH. no in-between. normally, i’d opt in for honors but since they don’t offer it, i took APUSH. i’m looking at the summer work and i’m really discouraged because i don’t feel like i can accomplish passing this course. i’m not an AP student - this is my first AP class. i absolutely DESPISE early american history too. any other country, i’m fine. american? no no no no.

i don’t have a good work ethic either… i mean all signs are pointing to me not taking this course, but i’d really like to go to a prestigious school like NYU. having an AP class definitely would not hurt my application to NYU. but i don’t want this class to hurt my GPA either.

i took honors world lit and honors world studies last year, this year i’m taking honors chem w/ 1 lab, honors american lit, honors german IV, psychology, and math analysis. (and if i drop APUSH, american history will be in there too) are these good classes for my most important year? should i take something else, too? like WWII or something?

aghhhh. im so stressed out because i’m trying to change my schedule around and i don’t even know what classes i wanna take.

someone. please. help. advice is needed.

My choice was between US and APUSH.

I detest American History.

It was my first AP class ever.

I got a 95 in the class and 4 on the test.

NYU isn’t very difficult to get in to.

Why not try APUSH and transfer out if you don’t like it?

(LOL like what happened with my APWH class. Started out with like, 30 people and ended with 7.)

If you can’t handle it, then take the normal class. It won’t kill you.

If you got a 95 in the class but a 4 on the test, it sounds like your school’s APUSH curriculum wasn’t very rigorous. You can’t really go off of that for all schools. I do agree with you on the NYU thing though.

If you don’t like American history, don’t take APUSH. There is a lot of reading involved.

The key to APUSH is memorizing information. If you can do that a 5 on the test is all but guaranteed. Take a look through the book and see if the later topics are of interest to you. If they aren’t, then don’t take the class. IME the main reason people do poorly in APUSH is because they don’t read the textbook.

I also don’t like American history and prefer other countries’ histories. Isn’t that odd? Anyway, why take a class you don’t like? If you really can’t do it, don’t! You have to be really motivated to self-study a class, a problem I’m having a little bit with geometry.
