I have been admitted to james madison and ohio state for business... I'm out of state for both so the price is similar. Which is a better option and why??? thanks for insight.. btw i am from New york and location is no issue.

“location is no issue”…

you do realize that there is no airport near JMU to get to NY I imagine?..train/bus or car are only options…

yes. the bus is there though and i am not against taking a bus. academically though which is more reputable?

there is an airport close the Harrisonburg with flights to Dulles which connect to NYC flights.

It is also very easy to get a ride to Dulles or National airport to catch a flight from another student. There is also a shuttle service that goes to the airports.

Not an answer to the OP, but to the 2nd post :)

To OP congrats on your acceptances! Will you be able to visit the two schools? It may be more about fit than reputation. I believe both are very good schools.

JMU, definitely. Ohio State is know as the party school/fall-back school where I’m from in VA. The business school at JMU is incredibly hard to get into, though. My sister got into it after her sophomore year at JMU and had a 3.6 GPA there. Good luck!

i’d visit both, because they’re very different. i think ohio state is more reputable, but as you can see from the posts above, it obviously depends on where you’re from. outside of the state of virginia, not a ton of people know what jmu is and many of my relatives have asked me if it is a private school…but everyone knows ohio state and it’s thought of to be a pretty good school. as for partying, everywhere parties. ohio state is a big state school so of course it’s going to have a rep for partying, but where i’m from in va, the student government, white, popular party kids who are still smart are the ones that go to jmu, and i mean springfest last year…so they have a party rep too. basically, just visit and make your decision based on fit/feel.

Well I’m from new jersey and jmu is gaining Popularity there n in the northeast. Everyone knows Ohio state here but thinks it’s a school with good sports but lacking in educational reputation. If you mention Ohio state all people think of is sports and partying. I would go with jmu if you haven’t visited it has a great campus.

i applied as a b-major, and the letter didn’t specify which college of jmu i got into. Is it possible i did not get in as a business major?
thanks.

@nyman123, JMU does not accept freshmen into the Business School. You have to apply sophomore year and according to the admissions info sessions, it is competitive to get in.

Students who would like to enter the college of business take specific course work in the freshman year, but must meet progression/ admission standards to complete the major … go to the JMU course catalog for the progression/ admission standards for the programs in the college of business.
