Hi Class of 2015!

I've noticed that so many high school students on CC have trouble editing and sometimes even starting their college essays. Some of the problems I've seen:

Is my idea cliched or is it original enough to stand out in an application pile of thousands?

I'm over the word limit! Which paragraphs can I cut out of my essay while still maintaining my message and story?

I really need a good grammatical editor, to catch all the mistakes that Spell Check won't.

So, some of my friends on CC and I have created a College Essays forum designed exclusively for high school students, which is hosted on Wikispaces! Here's the premise: every week, we post a new essay for members to comment on and provide feedback for. Members submit essays to the essays forum administrators, who will rotate the essays around every week. In order for your essay to be featured on our essays forum, you must provide critical feedback to other essays.

So, why does this work? Well, first of all, as a high school senior myself, one of the biggest problems I've had is handing my essays to different people--only to receive contradictory feedback. One person might say that he or she loved my opening statement, while another person disagrees entirely. I'm left feeling confused and uncertain as to what to revise. However, through the College Essays forum, we have provided for targeted feedback, which means that members can comment directly on the essay and also to each other's comments. This direct commentary encourages members to discuss any contradictory opinions amongst themselves and resolve them!

This essays forum is absolutely free, and we're also looking for people to help us run the site, so if you're looking for a leadership opportunity, this would be perfect for you! PM me for more information!
