I want to go to a good school for Engineering, and focus on Electrical/Computer engineering. My grades aren't good enough for Ivy League exactly. I pretty much have a 2000 SAT (700m 650v 650w), and a 4.0 weighted GPA. So I'm looking for schools that aren't exactly MIT calibur, but still good schools. Any recommendations?

Well, you have a huge number of possibilities. Some to consider: Illinois, Michigan, Georgia Tech, Carnegie Mellon, Rose-Hulman, Purdue, Case Western, Maryland, Penn State, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Colorado, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Texas, Texas A&M, Arizona, North Carolina State, Iowa State, Rennselaer Polytechnic, Virginia Tech, Harvey Mudd, Bucknell.

I'd say Harvey Mudd and GTech are at the higher calibur admissions for him, second opinion?

If you are thinking safety, match, reach, Harvey Mudd and Carnegie are reaches, some of the others could be like Texas because of the high difficulty for an out-of-state resident if poster is not from Texas, likewise Mich; GTech is likely a match but info given does not tell you enough since GTech calculates its own weighted GPA, Illinois ditto because it heavily relies on class rank which is not given; others listed are likely matches to safeties.

Is there any private schools that are at my level? Money is going to play a pretty significant issue, but my household income is just enough where I don't think I'll qualify for need based financial aid. I am under the impression that private universities are more willing to give scholarships for academics + need absed reasons. I'm also a hispanic if the minority card helps.

NICKV360: i THIN THAT bUCKNELL IS ONE OF THE BEST ENGINEERING SCHOOLS. Even the USNEWS magazine thinks so. In addition, I have a friend at Bucknell who is majoring in engineering and she says the course is very vigorous.

So GTech is my highest priority school. With the provided stats, and given that I'm going to be a senior taking AP Physics, AP Calc, AP Gov, AP Economics, AP English, will I be able to get acceptd to GTech? Any chance for a scholarship from out of state?

BTW, class rank currently is 17 out of 338. My GPA should go up because of the AP classes too.

bUCKNELL IS A PRIVATE SCHOOL TOO

iT'S LOOKS LIKE YOU WOULD BE ABLE TO GET INTO GTech however. They LOVE AP classes. My friend told me that the best thing to do is to take 4 of EVERYTHING. Especialy 4 years of math and science.

I'm going to have four years of math, and four years of science. Bio, Chem, Physics, AP Physics.

"Any chance for a scholarship from out of state?"

Not likely..they don't give too much
