Need Help With Deadlines!

<p>I thought applications should be sent anywhere from january 1st to around march(depending on the college).
If you can take a second and look at CMU(link):</p>

<p>It shows Regular Application due JULY 1st? How is that possible when the school year starts around september?
If somebody can please explain, a few of the colleges are like this and I need help quick.
