i have several questions. thanks to all in advance. i am reading the guide for first years and am left frustrated. Here's what I have so far:
LFIT112
ANTH 146 Moral Consc.
MUSC 147 Intro to Latin American Music
CLAS 073 FYS Ancient Pompeii
...
and if i take ROML060 FYS Spanish and entrepreneurship i would have all my GREs completed 100% but can u even take two first year seminars in one semester? also i placed into the highest level of spanish and would like to take SPAN 260 Intro to Lit. Does anyone know about the department interviews?

Sorry about all the questions but i have CTOPS in a few days and am stressed out. thank you.

Yea don’t panic too much about getting a perfect schedule first semester. Do you know what you want to do major-wise yet, even generally? Like science vs history. If so try and take one of those lower level classes. A lot of people freak out during CTOPS about classes and scheduling but it is really not that big of a deal.

You shouldn’t need a dept interview for 260. You’ll be able to sign up for it at CTOPS. The problem will be getting into that class. Upperclassmen have already had dibs on it and it may be full. Never know. You can also take 255 at that same level, which is conversation so look out for that.

Here’s how FYS registration works: There are 1 or 2 slots open for each FYS at each CTOPS. You probably won’t get into the one you want. If you are dying to take one of those, look and see if it is offered second semester. If it is, wait til then to take it. You will have priority registration for FYSs before actual registration and that time period is free game for all first years who didn’t take one first semester. If you can get into one of the ones you want first semester, then you can’t register for another one until all first years have registered for second semester. Then, if there are still spots open in any FYSs, you can take a second one. You can take two in one semester, it’s just hard to be able to get into 2.

Yeah that Pompeii class is definitely gonna fill up fast. I actually got into my first-choice FYS both semesters because I wanted to take the ones no one else wanted because I’m a nerd ;)

All the first-year seminars are fabulous; just take whatever’s available & you’ll probably have a great experience.
