I'm a high school sophomore desparately searching for a mentor to shadow in the biomedical field. How did you guys go about finding mentors? Any tips?

Should I try universities or look for some private researcher? Come on, somebody respond! (Yeah it's a bump...)

It depends on what you want to do. Usually university professors are very outgoing to high school students -- they ARE very outgoing, even though I have no idea why :\
So, what I tried to say is that you should probably e-mail some profs with letters on your skills.

Hmm, here's the problem, I don't have any "skills" quite yet (taking Honors Biology this year). What I do have is motivation and dedication, but that doesn't seem to cut it with many of them. Is there a chance I could volunteer or something instead? I really just want to get involved as early as I can. After all, a head start may produce better results for the future. (bump)

(tenchars) bump

Get some experience volunteering in a hospital during this year or this summer, since you're only a soph. Then, armed with that little bit of experience, you can ask for an internship or shadowing opp. during junior year
