I’m a sophomore at a tiny charter school in Central NJ where basically everyone goes to Rutgers or Montclair State. I have very little interest whatsoever about remaining in NJ. I am thinking about majoring in Biomedical Engineering (or Chemical Engineering), International Relations, Psychology, or Biology.
My stats:
4.0 UW GPA
~4.62 W GPA.
Rank: #1/49. (Would being first in such a small school discredit my accomplishments, as opposed to being first in a ~800 student class?)
PSAT- 192 cold
SAT practice tests- upper 1900’s to mid 2000s
No AP Tests yet, although I will be taking 2(Bio and EnviroSci) this May
I’ll probably have 10-12 AP tests by graduation.
EC’s:
Science Club 9th Grade
Art Club 9th Grade
Student Council Grade Delegate 9th Grade
Student Activities Committee Member 9th Grade
Volunteer/Tutor at Elementary School 9th Grade (about 200 hrs.)
Volunteer Counselor In Training at Local Summer Camp Summers Before 9th and 10th Grade(over `1000 hours)
Volunteer “Buddy” in program playing Soccer with disabled children 10th Grade(~20 hours)
Volunteer “Reading Buddy” in program with young children at local library Summers Before 9th and 10th grade(~20 hrs)
NHS 10th Grade
Possible forthcoming volunteer at local hospital.
Possible summer research internship.
Possible summer college courses/leadership forums
Here are what I’d like in a college:
Northeastern/Midwestern/Mid-Atlantic. I’d like to avoid going more south than Washington DC or crossing the Mississippi.
I’d like the college to be smallish, probably about 2000- 10000 students, but DEFINITELY not under 2000. I don’t want my college to feel like HS.
Not horribly expensive, as I am most likely going to go to graduate or medical school.
Not ridiculously urban if it’s a big school.
(This is what I like about Macalester- it’s very small but in a large city with diverse opportunities.)
Good in my major(s), obviously (Dont worry if a school doesn’t have one; I could fall in love with something else tomorrow)
I’d like to live on campus, and most other students to as well.
Greek life doesn’t matter
I don’t want to go to a “party school” but I want to have some fun.
Schools appealing to my right now: Brown, Macalester, Dartmouth, Carnegie Mellon.
Thanks. If you help me, I will try to help you.
