Need help with future plans!

I'll start by saying I had a rough start to my undergraduate experience. After spending a year at The University of Oregan, I decided to move back home to maryland in order to deal with some personal issues that had greatly affected both my academic and social experience at school. Now, a full year later !!!! , I am ready to start fresh and work towards a degree. Only problem is that my overall college gpa is farrrrr below what any good college would accept right now. So, here are my options:

Take courses at my dream school ( George Washington U.) as a non degree seeking student for a semester, and later apply as a full time student.

Enroll in a community college and later apply to a four year university.

I'm leaning towards the first option because I feel like taking GWU classes and doing well in them would give me a greater chance in being accepted.

Can anyone please give me some advice?

Personally, option 1 seems the more desirable of the two. Also, I agree that you could have a better chance of being admitted as a full-time degree seeking student - though, I’m not necessarily saying that will, in fact, happen.

However, you may want to find out whether GWU has any sort of “Guaranteed Acceptance Policy” for community college students. There seems to be quite a few universities that do that.
