Need help with future plans!

I'll start by saying I had a rough start to my undergraduate experience. After spending a year at The University of Oregan, I decided to move back home to maryland in order to deal with some personal issues that had greatly affected both my academic and social experience at school. Now, a full year later !!!! , I am ready to start fresh and work towards a degree. Only problem is that my overall college gpa is farrrrr below what any good college would accept right now. So, here are my options:

Take courses at my dream school ( George Washington U.) as a non degree seeking student for a semester, and later apply as a full time student.

Enroll in a community college and later apply to a four year university.

I'm leaning towards the first option because I feel like taking GWU classes and doing well in them would give me a greater chance in being accepted.

Can anyone please give me some advice?

You may want to check GWU to see if it is transfer friendly and if taking courses there as a non-degree student helps.

For public universities, they likely accept a lot of students from community colleges, and have articulation agreements with the community colleges so that students know what courses at the community colleges they need for the desired major at the desired state university.

I agree – try to talk to someone involved in transfer admissions and see if taking classes there would matter at all and if you could be a candidate the school would consider.
Also, be sure you can afford GW because schools often don’t give much aid to transfers.

If your family can pay out-of-pocket for GWU, then go ahead. However if they can’t and money is an issue enroll in the MD Community College closest to you instead. Ask the Transfer Counselor there which courses and grades are most likely to make it possible to transfer to GWU.
