Need help with making the final decision before May 1st

@Angelababy30 I can’t speak for all, but my perception is that UPenn is an Ivy League school with an overall acceptance rate of +/- 9%. You hit the jackpot and you deserve it!

@Happy4u We give you permission to speak for everyone. That is how everyone else outside of the local bubble think of UPenn.

Yep to posts #80 and 81. Ivy League, uber competitive. You should be very proud!

Everyone is talking about that in my school (at least among the people I talk to often). I guess its just us. I felt better knowing that those are false now!

@Angelababy30 Years ago, our valedictorian was admitted to Harvey Mudd. We thought that was the weirdest named place we’d ever heard of. Who’d go to a college with mudd in the name. Why woul she want to go there…

What do kids really know. Too bad the kids at your school will give up life changing opportunities. At least you won’t be as foolish.

@Angelababy30 Another way to look at this: UPenn is trying to keep the best and brightest in Philadelphia. Fine universities consider it their civic obligation to keep the most talented students in the local area. They chose you.

@Angelababy30

Angela. Good luck. You will be perfectly successful wherever you choose. Most opinions here , if not all, are from parents. We have seen a bit of how life works and offer you our best guidance like you were our daughter. There are advantages that are subtle and hard to quantify with an Ivy degree that follows you. We always want what’s best for our kids and the same for you. That being said. You will learn just as much and have just as much success as your talents and hard work will take you if go to penn state honors. In fact it could help you more in some unforeseen way we cannot envision as mere mortals. It is really most important that you are happy. Don’t feel pressure from the world to do what is not in your heart. It won’t serve you well. If you’re not into it. Don’t go to penn. but it is a generally better, on average, for most people to choose it. That’s the bottom line.

@privatebanker @MYOS1634 @Cookies510 @gearmom @MA2012 @Nikigirl @happy1 @Happy4u @Dancer14 @intparent @Lindagaf @Dolemite Thank you so much for all of your inputs and advice! I really appreciated them. I have just committed to UPenn for my next four years. This would be an extremely difficult decision for me without all of your advice. Let me know if you have any advice on how to survive UPenn for the next four years. And once again, thank you so much!

Congratulations and all the best.

Just do you best – work hard and seek out help if you need it, find time for fun, be open to new friendships and experiences and you will do more than survive – you will thrive!

Nice!!!

Congratulations!

Congratulations @Angelababy30! Just keep doing what got you to Penn and you will continue to succeed.

Congrats!

@Angelababy30 You’re going to rock at UPenn.

The main advice I gave my D when she started this year and that I’d give to any new student:

The University has a plethora of resources to help you succeed but you have to take advantage of them No one is going to make you. When you have a paper to write there is a Writing Center to help you. Be proactive with writing early - write a draft and go to the Writing Center and ask for feedback before you turn in the paper and not after you get that first grade. There is a Math TA office for help with Math. Any class with extensive problem sets for homework will probably have TAs office hours and the Professor will have office hours. Read your Syllabus thoroughly for each class - it will list the resources available and basically all important information. My spouse is a professor and she gets so many questions from students where the answer is in the Syllabus.

@Dolemite thank you so much for your advice! Felt relieved knowing that there is so much resources at Penn for their students.

Go be awesome @Angelbaby30!!! @Dolemite has really fantastic advice. It’s students who don’t ask for help who often struggle the most. Congrats!!

Congrats! Come back this time next year & let us know how the first year has gone!

Looking forward to updates on your new life at Penn.
