I was admitted to Auburn and was so excited. I had decided to go there, but I was still waiting to find out my admission decision the University of Florida. When I got accepted to UF, I changed my mind and decided to go there instead of Auburn. Now I am starting to have cold feet about that decision.

When I visited Auburn the first time, I didn’t really like it that much. I guess it was because it was absolutely freezing, the wind was blowing, and I hadn’t brought a jacket. The second time I went was a couple of months ago and it was raining. Just my luck. I absolutely fell in love with it that day. Everyone was so friendly, the campus was beautiful, and it seemed like I had found my match. Then I received my admission letter from Florida and Auburn went out the window. Now I can’t help but wonder if I made my decision too quickly.

Are the people at Auburn actually as nice as they seem? What are some of the things you like or dislike about Auburn?

I don’t know a whole lot about Auburn and so any help or personal experience would prove helpful. Thanks!

For what it’s worth, I’m a Florida resident and will be attending Auburn as a freshman in the fall. I have visited AU’s campus three times now and have loved it and the people have always been super friendly. I was in a serious horseriding accident 5 weeks ago and I recieved a handwritten letter from the admissions counselor wanting to know if there was anything they could do to help. And this was before I had even officially decided to go there.

I have the opposite feeling about UF. I didn’t even bother applying there because I new I didn’t want to go. Everything I have heard/seen about it was that you were basically just a number to them. I have never felt that way about Auburn. Obviously I can’t speak from personal experience yet because I will be a freshman there this coming year, but I am by far super excited. And I was ecstatic when my parents decided that I could go for sure.

Good luck with all your decision making! I’m sure wherever you end up will be a good experience. I just know that AU is the place for me :)

britgator, I don’t think you can go wrong with either Auburn or UF. We toured both and the students conducting the tours were very friendly and welcoming. UF is bigger so AU felt more like home to me. But the advantage of a big school is that there will be lots of activities to get involved in and lots of opportunities to meet people and make friends. I saw on another thread that both schools are out-of-state for you so the tuition is probably comparable… expensive! haha
I think you should choose the school that feels like home to you, since you’ll be spending LOTS of time there! Good luck!
ponygirl, Good luck to you also; I hope you love Auburn!

My D is a freshman at AU and we are from Florida (most of the kids who don’t do the Ivies from her HS go to UF, FSU or UCF). She never even thought about schools in Florida and is not sorry. She LOVES AU. You can find the sports social thing and Greek Life at both places. As previously posted, though, UF is twice as big as AU. Many of my D’s friends at UF this year have had trouble getting into classes they needed or wanted (though this is sometimes the case at AU, especially for some honors classes) necessitating taking a lot of classes on line. Her UF friends have not felt the advisors to be that helpful. This is not the case at AU. My D’s business school advisor and her honors advisor have been VERY helpful.

She loves the friendliness of the students at AU and hasn’t found it to be the case when she has visited at UF. She mostly has loved the professors and they have some much academic support at AU–SI, writing center, professors widely available.

Having said that, if you are a FL resident, UF will be much cheaper with Bright Futures.
