Need help with my schedule for Kelley

I'm a direct admit to Kelley and plan on studying either accounting of finance. I am heading into IU with AP credit for Lit, US History, World History, and possibly Government. I also took the W-131 in high school and received and A. I have no idea what my schedule should look like. I do want to apply for the business honors program at the end of freshman year. Also I am looking to take the easiest A&M, S&H, N&M, and WLC classes. I know the actual business classes will be difficult so I do not want hard mandatory classes, which do not pertain to my major.

Did you get a 4 or 5 on the AP Lit? If so, that will knock off one of the A&H classes you have to take. So as far as your non-Kelley required gen-eds go, that leaves an A&H, a natural science, and world cultures. GEOL-G 116 seems to be the easiest natural science, so you probably want to either take that or psychology.

Then you only need one A&H to fulfill your lower level gen-eds that aren’t also required by Kelley. Some people like to take an A&H that double counts as a WLC, but that’s just up to you. Folk-F 101 is an A&H that has a very attractive grade distribution.

As far as I-core prerequisites go, your class has a little bit different of a situation than previous ones. X220 is gone, and they added required 5.5 additional credits.

None of those classes look like they are going to be challenging though, so you probably don’t need to worry about them.

There are a multitude of different strategies for how to plan your Pre I-Core classes freshman year. My advice would be think about what classes you’re going to do really well in, and take those. Avoid the classes you think you may struggle with until after business honors admissions, which is after freshman freshman year. I had sophomore business honors students in my business presentations class because they knew that the class would be a struggle for them so they avoided it.

If you are a strong student, I recommend taking A100 and K201 in the Fall. That way, you have the option of taking A201 and/or X201 in the Spring. I also highly recommend taking C-104 with Byron Craig, because he is the best/easiest professor for that class.

Here’s what my schedule looked like just so you can have an idea of what to expect.

Fall:

Natural Science
A-100
K-201
A&H
X104 (now C-104)
X-220
Kelley LLC Class

Spring:
A-201
X-201
Upper Level S&H
A&H
HPER (GPA buffer)
Kelley LLC Class

Thanks for the information it was very helpful, and yes I did get a 4 on the AP Lit test.

HKem, what kind of computer do you have? Do any Kelley students use a Mac?

I have a PC. There are Kelley students who use Macs though. There’s this cool new thing that UITS put into beta testing last spring called iuanyware.

<a href=“IUanyWare: Assessment & Instruction Tools: Technology for Teaching: Services: University Information Technology Services: Indiana University”>IUanyWare: Assessment & Instruction Tools: Technology for Teaching: Services: University Information Technology Services: Indiana University;

Basically the idea that the software applications run on a centralized computer at IU, but come through your screen/monitor. What this means is that you can run Excel your Mac screen, but it’s actually running on a PC. It’s full Excel 2010 with solver, @Risk, and all the bells and whistles, but it runs on your screen.

I was able to do it through my Ipad, and it worked flawlessly. Now that we have IUanyware, I can’t think of any disadvantage to having a Mac in Kelley.

You’re a great source of information. Thank you

HI! I’m a DA for Kelley too. Where do most Kelley students dorm? Are there specific buildings for Kelley?

There’s a Kelley LLC in McNutt, but besides that, Kelley students can be anywhere. Generally you’ll see a higher population of them in NW though.
