So I've spent a lot of time getting my schedule ready and trying to fix it up.
I think I have a somewhat 'basic' schedule down but I'm not too sure about the teachers I got and if I should change around my schedule to get better professors.

I'm in H&SS and plan on majoring in Philosophy.
Here's what my current schedule looks like:
76-145, Freshman Seminar with Knapp
79-104, Globalization Through History (Spain and the World) with Maddox
80-100, Introduction to Philosophy with Norman (I heard Harrell isn't good)
70-100, Global Business with Kekre (I wanted to take Cofield but then I'd have to take Harrell for Philosophy since there would be a clash in my schedule)
70-101, Introduction to Business Management with Lamont

The clash I have right now is between Philosophy and Global Business. I want Norman but then I get Kekre. Is Professor Kekre good and an easy grader? Oh and I can take Philosophy with someone else but the instructor is TBA so I'm not sure who I'll get. If I choose that my schedule would work out just fine.

Also, I'm not too sure about taking Introduction to Business Management. I'd rather take another philosophy course but the only ones I can take are 200 level courses and according to my older brother I should avoid them my first semester since they're hard.
The 200 level courses I was thinking about were 80-208, Critical Thinking with Norman and 80-235, Political Philosophy with Hassoun. Are those hard classes? And are the professors easy graders?

Any advice? And can someone comment on all the professors I have selected right now?
Thanks.

P.S. I checked Ratemyprofessors.com but a lot of the CMU professors I'm looking at aren't on there.

EDIT: I took a snapshot of my schedule. Here it is. Also I want to take RED instead of BLUE.

Sorry about the double post, forum won’t let me edit my first post any more.

Here’s a better picture:

You have one too many classes. Your counselor will likely not let you overload 50 credits because you have no preexisting GPA to go off of (you need a 3.0 to be allowed to overload in HSS).

For the love of god DO NOT TAKE A CLASS WITH PROFESSOR KNAPP. You will want to die.

I took a Shakespeare class with Dr. Rebecca May that was sheer awesome, and then decided to sign up for second semester with Knapp. At the beginning, all the class was attentive. Her lecturing style was so boring, droll and uninformative that at the end of the class, -everyone- was bringing their laptop to lecture and going on facebook. She was literally the worst teacher I have ever had in my entire life. According to the other English professors I’ve had, this is her usual modus operandi, and not many students are fond of her.

After one class, this prospective creative writing major girl came up to me and said, “hi, I’m thinking of coming to CMU and someone said you were a writing major… all the classes at CMU aren’t as terrible as this, are they?”

That said, the rest looks good
I would also advise taking Intro Phil. with Norman rather than Harrell. She was good in a small seminar I had with her but her Intro course is not very well liked.

Oh yes I know those aren’t my classes, I just added Critical Thinking and Intro to Business Management because I had nothing else for Tuesday and Thursday and I was just exploring. I’ll be taking only one, but I just found out that I can’t take Intro to Business Studies because I’m taking Global Business. I’ll try to change from Knapp but I don’t think I’ll be able to
But anyway, I need one more course in my Tuesday and Thursday to get all 5 of my courses… as of right now I have only 4. I removed Bus. Management and Critical Thinking.

Aaah this is so confusing I have nooo idea what course to pick. A lot of people are telling me to limit myself to 100 level courses for first semester and I can’t exactly find any other course to fit in.

P.S. So I changed from Knapp to Harvey for my Freshman Seminar. I’m now in the English Freshman Seminar.
I’m still confused about my fifth course though.
Oh and here’s an updated pic of what my schedule looks like. I still need a 5th course aaah
http://img816.imageshack.us/img816/9369/screenshot20100702at909.png

Harvey is much more awesome. She’s an intensely placid, gentle, well-spoken poet who randomly goes Queen Latifah on people when they offend her (e.g. aw HELL naw, homeboi). Her cool points are through the roof. I hope you enjoy her seminar :)

And… why not add in Interp or Statistics (36201) to your schedule? Those are two more of the Freshman Five, and you will have to take them next semester if you don’t take them this one. Aside from that - it is a wise idea not to burden yourself with too many 200 and 300 level classes, but first semester I am certain that one or two 200 level HSS classes will absolutely not burden you too much. Check out a higher level philosophy course, maybe? You might really enjoy it. I loved my 300-level eng. course. :)

Hm thanks a lot Kate, I kind of figured out my schedule. I took another philosophy class instead. I like this one much better
Only thing is now I’ll actually have to wake up early haha… but oh well.
Here’s what it looks like now:

Do you guys know anything about Shimmin for 76-101?

The apocalypse topic with Shimmin was supposed to be cool, but I do not know if Shimmin is still teaching it or has moved onto a new topic :/

Well it still shows up as an option for me on SIO. I chose that topic so hopefully I’ll be able to register for her class.
