Greetings,
I am currently on a gap year, after attending a year at the George Washington University, due to finances. I would like to transfer to another college (as I can no longer afford GW), but have one major issue. My terrible GWU GPA. It is no secret, I partied a lot and lost focus on my school work. Trust me when I say I have learned from my mistakes, and am not here looking for a lecture on staying focused. I have come to that realization on my own, and I am truly ashamed of myself for wasting a year of one of the most expensive colleges in the country.
I have been working for a reputable medical case management company for the past 6 months, and will continue to work there until May. I will have raving reviews/recommendations from my employers, who (if they didnt wan the best for me), would rather I stay out of school and continue working for the company.
Now that I am ready to go back to school, I am afraid my bad GPA will hinder the schools I am able to get into. My high school transcripts were fairly strong. I always had a pretty good GPA (~3.1), very athletic (captain of high school and national swim teams). SATs were a 1650/2400 (not great I know).
Lastly, I am looking to go to a public college in Virginia, where I am a resident. I know of the guaranteed acceptance programs (at the Northern Virginia Community College), but I am not sure how my GWU credits/GPA will come in to play. Will I be able to transfer my credits to NOVACC (and not have my GPA be a factor), and still be eligible for GAA?
I am not completely opposed to just biting the bullet and applying to a VA public school (JMU, VCU, etc), but I know these are extremely competitive as regular transfers.

I guess what Im saying is that there are a lot of people who have messed up their freshman year of college. How can I move forward?
