Need Help with which Colleges/Universities to consider! HELP!

Hi i'm having the toughest time with figuring out what colleges to consider. I want to major in journalism, and do something (double major or minor) with - fashion merchandising, public relations and possibly even sociology. I've looked at bigger colleges because of my older sister, we looked at Purdue, Ball state, and Iowa State and I didn't like any of them. Then I also looked at Columbia College Chicago and I loved the atmosphere and everything about it. But i've heard a lot of negativity about it.I really want to find a smaller, mid sized artsy college in a big urban city like New York, Boston, L.A and Seattle. I want the school to also have a good reputation, but I don't want it to be highly selective. I'm so picky and i'm having the hardest time. HELP.

The schools don't have to be in the cities I listed, but cities like them.

What is your GPA and ACT/SAT score?

I haven’t taken the ACT yet, i’m going to take it in the spring, but my goal is like a 25-27. My GPA is a 3.3, which is not as good as I hoped it would be, but thats it!

Have you looked at Syracuse??

Are you a junior?

What state are you in?

What is your budget?

I have actually looked into Syracuse! It seems really pretty, but I want a school in an urban city, and i’m pretty sure Syracuse is in a smaller college town!

Yes i’m a junior, I live in IL, but i’m allowed to go out of state, and it really doesn’t matter how far. I’m not a hundred percent sure of my budget, but i’m sure its no more than 40,000, but I would like to stay in the mid/lower 30,000 dollar range.

Seattle University has a good art department and fits with your GPA. It’s right in downtown Seattle.

Syracuse University is in a big city, very urban although it does have a real campus which is quite nice. Sounds like a good fit for you.

From SU’s website:

"What is the average GPA and SAT score?

Applicants to Syracuse University present a variety of academic and extracurricular credentials. Therefore, it’s virtually impossible for us to use a set formula to determine who we admit each year. The Admissions Committee will review your application individually, taking into account your academic credentials, as well as your unique personal qualities. For students entering the University in the fall semester of 2010, the average GPA was 3.6 and the middle 50 percent of SAT scores ranged from 1610-1870."

Please note that acceptance to Newhouse is very competitive as well!

Syracuse is a reach for you with that GPA it seems. Seton Hall is right outside of NYC and has a great journalism program, and it’s less competative (probably better for your GPA). Rutgers is also right there out of NYC but it’s larger. Emmerson in Boston has a good journalism program but I think your GPA is alittle low there too. University of Mayland College Park I have also heard has a great journalism program and is right outside of WAshington DC.

While this site is a great resource, remember that many comments are made about schools by people that make judgements based on nothing more than USNWR stats and name recognition. Within Chicago area, Coliumbia college is considered to have artsy, creative and hardworking students. If you felt comfortable there, keep it on your list. Chicago also has other schools to consider, such as Loyola, Depaul and Lake Forest. If you are an Indiana resident (considering the schools that you mentioned), you might look at IUPUI. It is in the heart of Indianapolis.

Thank you all for your suggestions! I will definitely look into the schools you all suggested! Thanks for the help!
