The Indiana snow/winter will be new to me. My mom said sneakers won't work. Is she right?

Is there some kind of boot that guys wear? What brand?

And I guess I'll need a jacket too. Would a Northface fleece be enough or would I need a shell on top of that?

Thanks

Sneakers always work but I recommend a pair of Tims as well. Purdue cleans the sidewalk horribly since they use a huge brush to take the snow off but it layers ice on top of ice which makes it a pain to walk on. You will probably slip a few times so that’s why I recommend a pair of Tims since they have some sort of traction and it’s waterproof.

I recommend a shell on top of a fleece because the winters can get VERY cold and windy. It has dropped to -15 degrees in wind chill before and we still had a full day of class so prepare yourself. Gloves and winter hats would be useful too.

I sent boots back with my son second semester which he swore he wouldn’t need…then it snowed and he was very grateful. He just used his hiking boots he had from camp that are waterproof. He doesn’t wear a coat often but he does have a Purdue fleece coat that Columbia makes (You can buy it online). He took gloves with him too, although I don’t know if he wears those either…He’s a junior, it’s don’t ask and he doesn’t tell time.
