So, because of financial reasons I am forced to leave my current school before spring semester. I will be able to pay off the debt to release my transcripts.

I'm transferring from a mid tier private college with a 2.38 GPA (I failed a class last semester under extenuating circumstances.) I scored a 34 on the ACT, graduated in the top 25% of my class, have strong EC's and a 3.8 GPA from dual enrollment classes during high school (I nearly completed an A.A.) I have no idea where to go now. I am a Florida resident, so I contacted UF and was told they won't consider my test scores or EC's, solely my private college GPA, and I have almost no chance of admittance. I'm looking at FSU and New College as well. I'm very overwhelmed but I need to start working on applications if I'm going to transfer.

Is there a private college that would accept me with decent finaid? If so, where should I start looking? Should I finish the A.A. this summer and apply for the spring? Could I get into FSU or New College if I applied now? I don't really understand how public colleges work. I just want to get my life back on track as quickly as possible. This is devastating.
