Need help

So, I’m interested in studying mechanical engineering. The only problem is, colleges in my country are expensive and the only college my family affords to put me in isnt the best and ME isnt ABET accredited in it but engineering majors like Civil, Industrial and electrical are accredited. What do I do now?
Do I change or wait 2 to see if ME does get accredited? Knowing that the first 2 years are the same for all engineering majors.

It is unfortunately true that many employers want to see that you attended an ABET accredited program if you are looking to get a job right out of undergrad. You could start out at that college that you can afford, and then transfer to another institution where the program is ABET accredited later. Or you can go for a master’s immediately after undergrad, where ABET accreditation no longer matters.

In addition, you can try to explore those ABET accredited majors as well. Who knows if you may end up changing your mind. The majority of freshman do end up pursuing a different major than they went into college thinking they would pursue.

Talk to the school and see where they are at in the accredidation process. If it looks like they will be accredited in the next couple of years then that is retroactive and will make your degree ABET accredited. I think you have a hard call. You might explore Civil or EE and see what you think. You say “in your country” do you mean county or are you an international student?
