Need help!

I'm seeking advice on what schools I should apply to? It's December 19 and I desperately need direction. I'm scared of the cold but I'm willing to give it a shot. I hate the idea of a homogeneous mix of white, preppy (jappy) people. I'd love for there to be big sport stuff although it is not a necessity. My number one goal is to go to a good academic university.

SAT: 1380
SAT II: writing 680
Math IIC 660
Rank: 16 / 187
Member of Key Club, NHS, AIDS Peer Educators little other clubs and stuff, no
positions. I played soccer and track for 3 years but I'm not doing it this year.
Weighted Average is over 100 but a little
Unweighted average around a 93

Last year I really, really wanted to go to UVA. I have a connection there but if I use it I have to go. I'm very nervous that it is too preppy and too conservative. I'm more of a liberal person and don't want to be the only one. I also was going to apply to Vanderbilt but now I'm not sure for many of the same reasons. UNC I'm planning on applying to although I realize I have a very slim chance of getting in. Other schools I'm thinking of applying to are Washington University at St. Louis, University of Wisconsin-Madison, University of Michigan (my sister goes there so that helps), William and Mary, Boston University, University of San Diego. I have applied to University of Maryland (college park) Honors, and University of Delaware Honors. I am planning on applying to Penn State as well. Please let me know what you think.

Thank you!

I'd say the only school on your list you might want to re-consider is University of San Diego. It's a terrific school academically but it is pretty close to what you say you don't want: lots of conservative, white, preppy, rich kids.

Some suggestions that you might consider to replace USD on the west coast: University of Washington, Whitman College in Washington State, Occidental College in Calif., Lewis & Clark in Oregon. Otherwise, you have a nice solid list of schools - get those applications in and good luck to you!

Thanks, appreciate the comments. Don't you think UVA is just like that? Very conservative and preppy. That concerns me.

I'll look into those other schools, thank you!

bump. more thoughts?

I'm at best confused, and at worst offended by your description of what you are looking (or not looking) for. I know what white people are, and have a vague understanding of what constitutes "preppy", but what are those "jappy" people you hope to avoid? Japanese people? Jewish women? (ie, jap = jewish american princess). Aren't Jewish people more commonly stereotyped as liberals? I don't see how you can avoid jappy people and conservatives at the same time. You need to learn proper PC-speak along with the acceptable codewords. :)

I'm a white, jewish girl myself. Sorry if I came off as a little offensive - I'm from Long Island..all these words are thrown around as common names. Yes by definition jappy is jewish american princess. Most people here refer it to the girls with their kate spade and coach bags. I've read a few times that at UVA everyone is dressed in their high quality clothes. I'm one to just lounge around in my sweatpants. I hope you understand what I'm trying to say and I hope no one else took offense to my post.

Not looking to avoid jewish people by any means as I am jewish, just looking to avoid the stereotype that LI has for jappy girls. I'm also not looking for a college that has NO people like this as I know every college does..I just don't want the majority to be, ala UVA.
