hey
I'm an international student from Nepal. I'll be attending a not so well known college in NJ from this fall. But, I really want to transfer to another good college.
Since you ppl here are quite familiar with the transfer process, it'd really help if you could help me out.
My stats: High school: top 10%
SAT I: 1260/1600 SAT II.. not worth mentionin lol
Majoring in Political Science

I'd like to know... ideally, what am I supposed to do in my 1st year in college.
Should I retake my SAT? what sort of things should I be involved in to have an outstanding record.
I'm sure there is no such thing as a formula to success, but a little bit of suggestion would be so helpful.

P.S. I'm an international student and I'll be needing financial aid.. lots of aid!

depending on what caliber university you would like to attend it might be helpful to retake your SAT, but most important is your GPA. As long as your GPA is high you should be fine

Fin aid is more limited for transfer students than freshmen at most universities and LACs. It is also very limited for internationals.

You need to identify schools you would like to attend, go to their websites and see if they offer financial aid to internationals. If so, you also need to see what their finaid policies are for transfer. Once you've identified such schools, then you can check whether they consider SAT for transfer admission; whether the accept SAT re-takes post college, and what the typical profile is of accepted transfer applicants.

Lots of work :(, but that's the only real way to figure it out.
