Just another one of these threads, what do you guys think of my chances to Harvard:

2180 SAT
760/740/700/700 SATII Math, US Hist, Bio, Physics
4.55 GPA
5's on 5 AP tests, 4's on 6 more

EC's: Bits here and there, joined some clubs, random positions, nothing special really. Volunteered in a 3rd world country for 7 months, though. (My hook...)

Also a first-generation immigrant from a country that no longer exists, low-income, that whole package.

Plus I took a gap year(?) last year. I should have graduated already but technically I'm not behind because I skipped a grade in elementary school, really not sure what they'll think of this.

So what do you guys think of my chances? Looking for honest no-BS opinions. Thanks in advance.

You really have to be more specific. There are threads for people who were accepted, please check there. I can say from what you’ve posted that you’ll probably get in. Again though, you have to give more to work with.

Thanks for the response. I’ve looked through results threads from the past few years, and to be frank, there’s no consistency in the admissions process. It’s almost like they’re flipping a coin on every applicant…

I can add that I’m ranked #1 in my class, but I got to a so-so public school. We had 1 person accepted to Harvard last year, and a few to MIT and Caltech the year before that, too.

@naizarak Your public school sounds better than just so-so, so I think being number 1 would help you. Again, to echo what the other person said, you need to post more stats to be sure.

I’d say you have a good chance. But then again, I can’t say if you’ll get in or not. After all, I’ve heard of people with better resumes than yours getting rejected and people with less stellar resumes getting accepted.

I’m going to disagree and say that your chances are mediocre. No superb SATs, no exceptionally attention-grabbing ECs, and no great hooks except maybe first gen. That being said, your essays need to be top-notch and recs equally good.
