Need Ideas for A Prospective Transfer-Oriented Organization

Hey guys, so after having been a transfer student myself, I've come to realize how difficult it can be to invade the social scene at a new campus and establish long-lasting friendships. If you transfer as a junior, most of your peers (who have been there since freshman year) will already have a tight-knit group of friends, with the rest of their free time being spent worrying about the next step game of the game, i.e. graduate school and future career aspirations.

One approach for a transfer student is to join clubs and organizations in order to mingle that way. While that is a worthwhile and valuable effort, It still remains that having some sort of social base on which to network out from makes it far easier for a new student.

Now, in my own experience, I did branch out and join on-campus clubs and organizations in an effort to to make friends. To a certain degree, I was successful. However, what tended to happen, whether it be making friendships in the classroom or through on-campus organizations, was transfer students would end up gravitating towards other transfer students. Of course this would be the case, right? Two people thrust into a similar situation will obviously hit it off quicker. Well, there is a general assumption that any one person you run into, especially from the perspective of a student that has been there since freshman year, has also been there from the get-go.

Personally speaking, all of my closest friends are also transfer students. The same holds true for every other transfer I have met and spoke to. So, knowing what we know now, we've decided to start an on-campus organization specifically for the purpose of providing a way for new transfers to socialize and provide sort of a springboard for them.

So, our main intentions would be to:

1) Provide an opportunity to network with other transfer students
2) Provide transfers a chance to participate in community service and other events with peers in a similar situation
3) Be a student-run resource for other transfers regarding campus opportunities and the like, etc.

What I'm hoping to get from you guys is feedback and a possible name for this club/organization.

Right now, we haven't decided whether or not to make it simply a club or go the (co-ed) frat route. Both have their pros and cons. Either way, we would greatly appreciate any input you guys have and for you to throw out any possible names that come to mind.

We're all very excited about proving new students with something we wished we would have had from the beginning. Take care!
