Considering DS to major in music at UW (Univ. of Washington state). He plays the piano/keyboards, and wants to study composition/theory.
Can anyone please give me ANY info you might have the dept./instructors/ or know students who attend (ed).
THANKS to all :)

Nothing first hand, but I did see this post on the UW board:

I also wonder about University of Washington versus Washington State for music/composition.

The Festival of Contemporary Music at Washington State looks interesting, and if you look it up, it includes works by faculty, a good sign for the department.

That’s not to say the U of W isn’t also good…I just noticed that Festival on the WS site :)

Sticking to public schools in Washington, Central Washington University might be worth checking out:

[Central Washington University - Music : Music Composition](http://www.cwu.edu/~music/compose/index.html)

I don’t know anything about the composition department, but their overall music program is supposed to be strong.

Again - check out Cornish College of the Arts. [Cornish College of the Arts: Curriculum and Concentrations](http://www.cornish.edu/music/curriculum/#comp)

Oldviola:
Thanks!
I was looking at that school the other night & although I like how they delve straight into the theory/comp. courses, I couldn’t help but feel how odd it is that the “campus” is so spread out…Kerry Music & Dance Hall is like 10 blocks from the main buildings & then the living quarters are blocks from there.
Is thos common for ARTS schools to not have a concentrated campus?

Here is a link to an article about recently opened dorms at Cornish.

Thanks for providing (and researching for) that link to the article.
It gives me alot to think about now doesn’t it! :)

I don’t know anything about the school, but happened to be watching TV last night and the UofWA orchestra was playing. They were quite good.
