My D is deciding on which apartment to move into next year when she moves from the residence hall. Any thoughts on the pros and cons of each apartment complex?

Also, I know the apartments are unfurnished. I would imagine a lot of the seniors end up unloading a lot of furniture at the end of the school year, while at the same time the new sophomors are out looking for furniture. Is there a mechanism to connect the two? Or does everyone just end up at Ikea?

There are 2 apartment “companies” to choose from. Waterview Park and University Village. University Village, the same company that runs the res halls, have relatively newer apartments, but they also cost more. Waterview Park apartments are older and a bit cheaper. For University Village, I recommend living in Phase 8, their newer apt phase. They’re the apts that are really close to campus. For Waterview Park, I would try to get into Phase 3, which I think is the best location on campus. The workers at Waterview Park are way nicer than University Village. Basically, it comes down to whether you want to live in newer apts or cheaper ones. Personally, I live in Waterview Park, and I dont really have any complaints.

I dont think there are any programs that are set up. Wouldnt be a bad idea. At the end of the semester, there will be a ton of furniture and stuff near the garbage bins, but beware of bedbugs.

Thanks. What do the utilities generally run in the Waterview? Do you have to pay for internet?

I have a one bedroom. Electricity is around $20. Water is $15. They have free wireless internet, but it is really really bad. A lot of people end up paying for better internet, which is around $15-$30.

That is helpful. Thank you.

Daughter lives in a two bedroom in the Waterview Apartments. She doesn’t pay separately for water but electricity runs the girls anywhere from $20 - $100 a month - split between the two girls, of course, so $10 - $50 each. They like it warm in winter so that’s when the bigger bills hit. The free internet service didn’t work out for them either (seconding bigreddawgie) so they pay for better internet.

No complaints re the apartment. It looked great on move-in day and any minor glitches have been handled quickly and efficiently.

I don’t know which phase they live in and I really don’t know why they chose Waterview. I do know they are quite happy with the choice.
